Portages

These are a selection of pictures taken showing some of the portage activities. We made 33 portages totaling over 8 miles. Since we had to make 3 trips each for each portage, we covered over 24 miles on the portages. Many of the portages are so long that it is not practical to walk from one end to the other without resting. So on the long portages, we break them up into several sections. Ideally, it is nice to find a tree that will allow resting the canoe in the air so you do not have to pick it up from the ground when you start the next section.
