Bridges
These are some of the pictures of bridges that we passed under during our trip. Lift bridges (Row 1, Picture 2 and Row 3, Picture 1). Swing bridges (Row 1, Picture 3 and Row 2, Picture 3). Note that the swing bridge in Row 2,Picture 3 is also a multi-use bridge with train taffic on the bottom and car taffic on top. Some of the low train bridges had to be taken out of operation when the river was openned up to large boat traffic (Row 2, Picture 1). The structure in Row 3, Picture 2 is a "Bridge" for electric and communication cables above the river. Most often, those type of cables are run along the river bottom. Our maps indicated numerous underwater cable, gas and petroleum pipeline crossings areas along the river. Row 3, Picture 3: a new bridge nearing completion. Cranes scoop the river bottom out to prepare holes to pour pilings for a new bridge (Row 4, Picture 1).
