First Launch

Although we had made a test voyage to check out the equipment packaging on a local lake, there was still a lot of uncertainty of how things would work out on the River. On June 2, 2003 our daughter Leslie dropped us off just South of Lock Number 2 in Hastings, Minnesota and had to head for work. Our Trip had offically begun. We set about loading the equipment into the canoe to start our adventure. Before we even got underway, the first towboat passed by and created a few waves for us to deal with as we were loading our equipment.
