Lock Process

These pictures depict the process of "locking through". Row 1 Picture 1, approach the lock being ever on the lookout for larger craft heading in either direction. You can signal the lock master requesting lockage via a marine radio or use the pull cord located along the lock wall (Row 1 Picture 2). Hang out along the lock wall and out of the way of any potential traffic heading in either direction until the lock doors are openned and you are given a Green Light or verbal command via the radio or loud speaker to enter the lock (Row 1 Picture 3). Once inside the lock, some lock masters will lower a rope to hang on to or others will allow you to "float" in the chamber until the water reaches your exit level (Row 2 Picture 1). When the water level reaches the exit level in the lock, the opposite end doors will open and a horn blast is your signal it is safe to exit the lock (Row 2, Picture 2).
