This
website contains pictures taken during John and Pat Dickinson’s Boundary Waters
Canoe Area (BWCA) Adventure of 2008. We left
home on May 24, 2008 and returned home on June 2nd. The purpose of the trip was check out an area of the BWCA that we had not visited before. We went in at Entry Point #14 which is North and East of Orr, MN.
Below are
a few statistics from our trip:
We had a very nice trip but the bugs and ticks were a nuisance! The route we choose was quite challenging. With a total of 8.14 miles of portages we got our hiking exercise. Since we had to make three trips on each portage, that resulted in 24 miles of "hiking". At times it seemed more like hiking carrying a canoe than canoeing with the occasional portage. The fishing was spotty with the couple of storms that went through during the period we were out. I did manage to get several Small Mouth Bass in the 20 inch, 4 pound range. Many of the bass that were caught had not yet spawned. The water was very high which made for some wet and muddy portages. The high point of the trip was seeing a mother moose and her two babies. We encountered an unusually high number of beaver this trip. They are always entertaining with their "tail slaps". We saw the "usual" assortment of deer, bald eagles, loons, ducks, geese, snakes, grouse and turtles. The weather and bugs detracted from this trip but it is always nice to get a chance to enjoy the beauty of the BWCA.
An assortment of the pictures that
we took on our trip are grouped in various topics. Use this
link to access the Topic Menu. From the Topic Menu, thumbnails of each
picture are provided to use as poke points to access an expanded view of that
picture. Use your browser’s forward and
back buttons to navigate through the pictures and return to this page.
Pat kept a daily diary on our Palm TX. The Diary is organized by day and can be found by clicking here.
