John and Patís Boundary Waters

Canoe Area Adventure 2006

Introduction

This website contains pictures taken during John and Pat Dickinsonís Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA) Adventure of 2006.We left home on June 3, 2006 and returned home on June 13th.†† The purpose of the trip was two-fold. First we wanted to check out the area around Tower, MN and Lake Vermilion as we will be renting a houseboat on Lake Vermilion in August of this year.Second, we wanted to spend a few days in the BWCA near Tower, MN as we have not been in this area of the BWCA before.

Below are a few statistics from our trip:

 †††††††† Paddling Days:†††††††††††††††††††††† 11††††
††††††††† Rain Days:††††††††††††††††††††††††††††† 3
††††††††† Camping Nights:††††††††††††††††††† 11
††††††††† Miles paddled:†††††††††††††††††††††† 70
††††††††† Portages:††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††† 5
††††††††† Total Portage distance:†††††††††††††††††† 1.87 miles
††††††††† Shortest Portage:††††††††††††††††††††††††††† 0.19 miles
††††††††† Longest Portage:††††††††††††††††††††††††††† 0.53 miles

The trip was SUPER!!!We had originally planned on spending most of our time paddling and camping on Lake Vermilion to check it out thoroughly before our houseboat trip in August. As it turned out, the fishing in the BWCA was so great that I could not bring myself to leave there. We spent a total of about 3 days on Lake Vermilion, about a day and one-half on the way in and a day and one-half on the way out.The remainder of the time we were on or near Trout Lake in the BWCA.
